Dog and Puppy Training Programmes

Thank you Grace!! Thanks to you we were able to train the untrainable little diva. Absolutely worth your weight in gold. The fact it’s not treat based is an even bigger bonus.

Food-Free Training for a Happy & Well Behaved Dog

Do you wish your dog would stop jumping, biting, stealing and chewing? Do they drive the neighbours nuts with their barking, harass your cat, or nearly pull your arm out of its socket on walks? Or maybe you just want them to listen to your commands, instead of waiting for the tenth time you say it, or not listening at all?

In our one-on-one, in-home programmes, you’ll learn how to create the well-behaved dog you pictured when you first brought them home. The programmes are tailored to you and your dog, to address the problems you’ve been having, and the things you want to teach.

Because the training is in your own home the whole family can be involved, so everyone is on the same page, without having to bundle everyone into the car and trek across town every weekend. All programmes also include a free Black Dog Wear halter and lead, as well as travel to your home (for Rolleston and the surrounding areas).

All of our programmes can be catered to both dogs and puppies.

Remember, your dog is going to be in your life for 10-14 years. That’s a long time to put up with problem behaviours! Our programmes allow you to create a dog who is a joy to be with, rather than a source of frustration, so you can spend those years making happy memories with your best mate.

Best Mate Puppy & Dog Training Programme

Best Mate Dog Training Programme

Freedom to enjoy your best mate around home and about town.

Imagine being able to invite guests over, and not having to shut your dog outside to avoid the chaos that used to happen when you let guests through the front door. Instead your dog greets them calmly, with no jumping, biting, or over-excitement, and then goes and lies on their bed, where they will stay until you invite them off it.

You can now enjoy taking them for a walk, without your arm being pulled out of its socket by an over-excited dog trying to sniff everything in sight, or trying desperately to go and say “hello” to that other dog across the street. You can even cook dinner without the dog being under your feet, because they know to stay out of the kitchen.

  • One-on-one training in your home so everyone can be involved, without trekking across town every weekend

  • Fix behavioural issues – no more jumping, biting, barking, stealing items, or pulling on the lead

  • Obedience under distraction that works even when they’re excited (like when guests arrive, or they see another dog when out walking). “Sit” (and stay), “Down” (and stay), “Heel” and “Come”.

  • Staying out of the kitchen, so they’re not under your feet when you’re cooking dinner.

  • Waiting to be invited through certain doorways (like the front door) – keeping them safe from running onto the road.

  • Staying on their bed until invited off it, so they can hang out with the family without being a pain, including when you have guests over.

  • Free halter and lead – great for training and teaching them to walk nicely on the lead

  • Peace of mind – free follow up support via email or phone for the life of your dog

This programme is typically achieved in one comprehensive introductory session, plus three follow up sessions.

Off-Lead Adventurer Puppy & Dog Training Programme

Off-lead Adventurer Dog Training Programme

Freedom to enjoy your best mate around home, about town, and further afield, with extra peace of mind from next-level support.

Imagine going exploring with your best mate – to the river, the park, or on one of the many beautiful walks in Canterbury, without stressing about them behaving badly, or not coming back when you call them. Because they’re now a joy to have in your life, you no longer feel guilty about having to leave them behind, or shut outside.

You also feel secure in the knowledge that if any issues do pop up, you have access to one-on-one support to get you back on track. This programme includes everything that’s in our other programmes – walking nicely on the lead, good manners, and listening around the house – plus off-lead obedience and even more support for extra peace of mind.

  • One-on-one training in your home, plus two “on-location” off-lead training sessions, so you can be confident letting your dog off-lead at the park or on a walk.

  • Fix behavioural issues – no more jumping, biting, barking, stealing items, or pulling on the lead.

  • Off-lead obedience under distraction that works even when they’re excited (like around new people or dogs at the park). “Sit” (and stay), “Down” (and stay), “Heel” and “Come”.

  • Staying out of the kitchen, so they’re not under your feet when you’re cooking dinner.

  • Waiting to be invited before going through certain doorways (like the front door), or jumping out of the car– keeping them safe from running onto the road.

  • Staying on their bed until invited off it, so they can hang out with the family without being a pain, including when you have guests over.

  • Free halter and lead – great for training and teaching them to walk nicely on the lead

  • Free long line for safely teaching them to come when called from a distance.

  • Peace of mind – free follow up support via email or phone for the life of your dog

  • UNLIMITED refresher sessions in your home, to polish up on anything we taught during the programme*

This programme is typically achieved in one in-home comprehensive introductory session, plus four in-home follow up sessions, and two “on-location” sessions to practice their skills off-lead, or in a more challenging area.

Note: If your dog has bigger behavioural issues, like dog aggression, or severe fear/anxiety, don’t worry, we can address those too by adapting our programmes to suit, and dropping out some of the things you may not need. For example, if your dog is aggressive to other dogs, we might drop out the off-lead recall from the off-lead adventurer programme, and spend our time focusing on the aggression instead.
